1895 Geneva Train Robbery Kettle

Lost Treasure NY • Ontario County County
Description
Ontario County legend of an 1895 train robbery loot — $40,000 in a cast-iron kettle buried about half a mile from Geneva, east of the Big Oak Golf Course and Pre-Emption Road.
Historical Notes
Finger Lakes railroad lines carried payroll and express shipments between Rochester and the Southern Tier in the 1890s. After an 1895 holdup, folklore says the bandits buried forty thousand dollars in a cast-iron kettle near Geneva. Modern guides place the site east of the Big Oak Golf Course along Pre-Emption Road in Ontario County.
