1715 Spanish Plate Fleet — South Carolina Coast

Lost Treasure SC • Horry / Georgetown County County
Description
Grand Strand legend of the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet — hurricane-wrecked galleons scattering gold and silver along South Carolina beaches from the Cape Fear region to Winyah Bay.
Historical Notes
The July 1715 hurricane wrecked eleven Spanish treasure ships from Florida to the Carolinas. Survivors camped on beaches while salvage began immediately — and continues today. South Carolina beaches near Myrtle Beach and Georgetown have yielded cob coins and artifacts for three centuries. Treasure hunters still work offshore leases after storms expose new pockets. The 1715 Fleet Society documents wrecks along the entire Southeast coast; South Carolina's segment anchors Grand Strand treasure-hunting culture.
